SCT X4 Preloaded Tunes

The SCT X4 programmer for the Ford 7.3 PowerStroke includes four tunes:

Performance Tune

The performance tune is the most aggressive preloaded 7.3 PowerStroke tune. It offers the biggest power and torque gains with less focus on fuel economy. Towing is not recommended with the SCT X4 performance tune.

Street Tune

Street tunes deliver a great overall balance of fuel economy, performance, and towing. Power and torque gains are lower than the performance tune, but this tune is safe for light towing up to ~5,000 lbs. 

Towing Tune

The SCT X4 towing tune has less emphasis on performance, but it's a great preloaded tune for any form of towing. Shift points are specifically optimized for towing with the 7.3L diesel.

Trans Only Tune

A transmission only tune is primarily for towing heavy loads. The engine and boost are left stock, so only the transmission shift points are tuned. It's a good alternative to the towing tune if you don't want to run more boost or power while towing.

These are the features that are available and work on the 7.3 PowerStroke specifically. The SCT X4 also offers other features like traction control, lock in the torque converter in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, and more. However, certain features like those are not compatible on the older 7.3L diesel.

Is the SCT X4 the Best Diesel Programmer?

We believe the SCT X4 is one of the best all around tuners for the Ford 7.3 diesel. However, the best tune can depend on your personal preferences, goals, and budget. If you have a larger budget and want a higher-end programmer then X tune is a great option. This device offers X, Y, and Z.
