Banks Power OBS '94-'97 Performance Intercooler
-Improve towing & reliability
-Lower engine temps
-Best supporting mod for tuning
Ford's OBS 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke's didn't get an intercooler until 1999. Ford increased the size of the turbo housing which they thought would prevent the turbo from getting too hot. While this is true for stock 7.3's the heat from the turbocharger becomes a problem once you tune the engine and start producing bigger power levels. Running aggressive tuning without an intercooler can cause the 7.3 Powerstroke to overheat and warp internal components.
Adding an intercooler to OBS 7.3's is the best way to lower engine temps and EGTs, preventing the engine from overheating from modifications or during heavy towing. Additionally, since these engines didn't include an intercooler from the factory there are some decent performance gains you can see from adding one.
Overall, an intercooler is one of the best supporting modifications and reliability upgrades you can make to an OBS F250 or F350. Keep your engine running cool to prevent problems and allow for higher horsepower builds.
Banks Intercooler Benefits
Banks Power's intercooler upgrade for 1994-1997 engines is the top of the line kit on the market. It includes all of the intercooler pipes, mounting brackets, and hardware necessary to bolt the intercooler right up to your 7.3 without any trimming or adjustments needed. Additionally, it includes a twin-ram intake manifold which helps improve airflow alongside the 3" mandrel-bent piping.
- -Lower EGTs by 100-200 degrees
- -Decrease engine temps
- -Improve engine reliability by keeping heat down
- -Great supporting mod for higher horsepower builds
- -Better gas mileage
- -Easy bolt-in fit with all brackets necessary
If you're looking for a more value-oriented upgrade we recommend looking at the dropping in a 6.0 Powerstroke OEM+ intercooler upgrade which is an easy retrofit to the 7.3 Powerstroke OBS trucks.
