Banks Power OBS '94-'97 Performance Intercooler

Ford's OBS 1994-1997 7.3 Powerstroke's didn't get an intercooler until 1999. Ford increased the size of the turbo housing which they thought would prevent the turbo from getting too hot. While this is true for stock 7.3's the heat from the turbocharger becomes a problem once you tune the engine and start producing bigger power levels. Running aggressive tuning without an intercooler can cause the 7.3 Powerstroke to overheat and warp internal components.

Adding an intercooler to OBS 7.3's is the best way to lower engine temps and EGTs, preventing the engine from overheating from modifications or during heavy towing. Additionally, since these engines didn't include an intercooler from the factory there are some decent performance gains you can see from adding one.

Overall, an intercooler is one of the best supporting modifications and reliability upgrades you can make to an OBS F250 or F350. Keep your engine running cool to prevent problems and allow for higher horsepower builds.
